Diagnostics

The full list of recommended diagnostic signals on JET can be found here. Below is a list of the signals most commonly used in TRANSP for the different required inputs.

Magnetic equilibrium : EFIT or EFTP (if HRTS available) - highly recommended to run EFIT++ pressure constrained equilibrium reconstruction, based on computed MHD pressure profiles from initial TRANSP runs to account for realistic TE and TI kinetic profiles, and fast ion effect
q profile : EFIT/q or EFTM/q if an EFIT equilibrium including MSE constraints is available
Plasma Current : MAGN/IPLA (A)
Diamagnetic Flux : MAGN/FLX (Wb)
Surface Loop Voltage : EFP/VPA from EFIT Post Processing
Electron Temperature Profile : HRTS/TE (eV) from High Resolution Thomson Scattering in combination with ECE KK3/TE measurements
Electron Density Profile : HRTS/NE (m-3) from High Resolution Thomson Scattering in combination with LIDR/NE core density measurements
Edge value of RBTor : MAGN/ITOR - This is the toroidal coil current. It is scaled as described in this section to obtain the value of RBT
Bolometry data : For 1D profiles it is recommended to use the processed bulk plasma bolometry signal BOLP/TOBP - alternatively BOLO/TOPI, BOLO/TOPU (Vertical camera) or BOLO/TOPH (Horizontal camera). One can request a Tomographic reconstruction which is then stored under the DDA BARA owned by user 'bolom'
Neutron Flux : TIN/RNT
1D ZEff : KS3/ZEFH from visible spectroscopy (Bremmstrahlung) or alternatively KS3/ZEFV - please note that due to regular changes in the calibration and filters used for the KS3 diagnostics, the recommended signal can vary, e.g. between campaigns and scenario types. If you observe ZEFF values below 1 or higher than expected, please contact the KS3 RO.
Ion Temperature Profile : Charge Exchange Recombination Spectroscopy (CXRS) - most commonly this is based on KS5 core impurity TI measurements, the processing of which is not done by default after the discharge is completed. The signal's analysis needs to be requested in ReqCo. To resolve TI at the edge please consider requesting the processing of the Edge CX signal in ReqCo.
Toroidal Rotation Frequency : Charge Exchange Recombination Spectroscopy (CXRS) - the processing of the angular frequency measurement is coupled to the ion temperature signals, please follow the instructions above.
Gas Injection : GASM/MAJR Majority gas rate (s-1)
Recycling Source : EDG7/FLW Integrated wall D-alpha photon flux from KS3 visible spectroscopy. This is then scaled by 10.0 to determine the rate of neutral influx into the plasma. This scale factor is based on experiments at TFTR. For more information see this talk by Hyun-Tae Kim.
