Ufile Identification

Transp identifies different types of Ufile data with a 3 character code. The Ufile from which the data is to be read is specified by two namelist entries - PREXXX and EXTXXX. For example

PRERBZ=MAGN
EXTRBZ=ITOR_0012

associates the dataset MAGN<Shot>.ITOR_0012 with the quantity RBZ , and identifies this as a copy of a PPF with sequence number 12.  A full list of known file names has been extracted from trdatgen.spec

Ufile selection

The TrFile utility reads the TR.DAT file, and creates all necessary Ufiles from the appropriate PPFs. Users may easily override the default UID ( JETPPF or tranppf ) with Ufiles from any other UID - see TrFile for further information.

Ufile Units - Transitional Problems ?

From version JET_35 onwards, all Ufiles are stored in SI units ( ie the same units as used by the PPF system ), and units conversion is performed by trdat. To ensure this conversion is requested, TrFile sets the parameter LFIXUP to 2.

NB Not all the units used to label JET PPFs are known to transp as yet  - two possibilities are common -

  • The units field was left blank - in this case, the appropriate unit string should be added to the file $CONFIGDIR/Default_Units
  • The units are valid, but not known to transp - in this case, the units must be added to the file misc/trdatgen.spec, and trdat rebuilt

Contact the transp RO if you have errors in trdat due to unrecognised units

Displaying Ufiles

There are 3 codes which may be used to display the contents of Ufiles -
