I have created a CGM file, how do I edit it?

The CGM file can be edited using Microsoft Word. Start up Word and read in the file using 'Insert->Picture->From File'. Once the picture has been inserted it can be edited by double clicking on it. The most common changes required are
  • Individual items can now be moved, edited or resized.
  • Several objects can be grouped together and all modified.
  • The picture size can be changed.
To demonstrate this we will start with a normal CGM file as produced by JETDSP.

Double click on it and it opens a picture window. Note that the text has reformatted itself badly.

Then perform the following.

  • Resize the legend text.
  • Resize the title.
  • Click on the legend text, then shift click on the legend line. Then select the group option. Drag this over to the right.
  • Use the select button at the bottom to select all the other graph objects. Group these and then use the right hand handle to resize the whole graph.
  • Deselect the select button by clicking it again, and then double click in the top left corner marked. Set the paper size.
The resultant screen should look something like;

Close the picture, and the modified picture should be shown in Word.
