Graphics are very slow

If graphics are very slow for your plot - and only appear after a few seconds of displaying of nothing but a black rectangle, then the On-screen graphics mode may be incorrect for the system where you are logged in to.

Use the Graphics panel of the Preferences dialog (from the File menu) to set the On-screen Graphics Mode. "Software 2" usually gives the best performance.
