Timeslice Data Display

Several different types of timeslice data are displayed: the timeslice lines, mode type data and event data. Not all these types of data have been set for any specific pulse. When this is the case some of the types of data display given below will also be missing. The graphical display of all types of timeslice data can be hidden or re-displayed.

Timeslice Lines

The timeslice lines mark the timeslices or timepoints which have been automatically or manually selected as being of particular interest. These timeslices are marked by vertical lines across all the plots. The colour and style of the lines displayed varies with the reason for selection of that timepoint. They appear similar to the lines on the plot below.

Most timeslice lines are displayed at points selected by an automatic program. However they may have been selected as of special interest in the timeslice editor (or the IBM TED program) by selecting reasons for that timeslice. Alternatively they may have been manually created using the timeslice editor. Such points are of special interest, and the relevant timeslice lines can be emphasised by selecting the Emphasise edited lines option from the view menu. The menu item title is then changed to No edited line emphasis. Select this to remove the emphasis as indicated below. The emphasised lines will then be made thicker to highlight them as in the diagram below.

Mode type data

The mode type data marks out time periods of interest during a pulse, such as the time for which a particular phase of the plasma exists. Mode type data is displayed by background shading in stripes behind the plots. The boundaries between the stripes mark the changes in the plasma mode, as in the diagram below. Several different types of mode data may exist for a pulse. Only one of these will be displayed. To change the type of mode data displayed select the Mode data type menu option from the View menu as below.

If no mode type data exists for this pulse, or if only one mode type datatype exists, then a message will be displayed to inform you of this. Otherwise a window will be displayed listing the mode type data types available to plot, as below.

Select the desired mode datatype and press OK. The different mode data types are indicated by different colours in the background shading.

Event Data

Event data marks specific events of interest in the pulse. Event time points are marked by solid, green, vertical lines across all the plots with x symbols spaced at regular intervals along the line, as in the following plot.

Hiding / Displaying Data

All the different types of timeslice data can be hidden or re-displayed to improve the visibility of other features. To hide the data, i.e. for its display to become invisible, select the Hide timeslice lines, Hide mode data or Hide event data options from the View menu. The display of the corresponding data will then disappear. If timeslice data is hidden, it can be made visible again by selection of the appropriate View menu option. If data is hidden the menu options will be altered to Display timeslice lines, Display mode data or Display event data. Selection of these option should cause the data to be redisplayed. If a particular type of timeslice data does not exist for that pulse then hiding and displaying it will have no noticeable effect.
