Reason and Mode codes

When a mode type point is created to indicate a change of interest in the mode of the plasma, a code is selected to represent which mode of the plasma is starting at that time point. When an event type point is created one or several reasons have to be set to indicate why that event is of interest. When a timeslice is created or moved then at least one reason must be set from amongst several categories of reasons to indicate why that time point has been chosen. In addition reasons for interest in existing timeslices can be set or added.

The existing mode points, event reasons and timeslice reasons which have been set for this pulse can be listed. However, it may be of interest to be able to see all the available codes for each different type of mode data, or all the existing event and or timeslice reasons. Windows can be created which provide such listings. These are created by selection of one of the options in the List menu.

Selecting the Timeslice Reasons option will display a window like the one below.

This allows you to select from all the existing timeslice reason categories - for each category it lists all the available reasons along with the reason numbers. These numbers correspond to the data written to datatypes in the TSMK PPF. For a category with many available reasons (such as CON) then one datatype is not sufficient to store all the possible reasons, and so several datatypes (in this case CON1 and CON2) are used to store the reasons. For a smaller number of reasons one datatype is sufficient (such as AHS1 only for category AHS). The timeslice editor performs all the conversion of reason numbers to the data stored to PPF.

The available event reasons and mode type codes can be listed in a similar manner by selecting the Event Reasons and Mode type codes options from the List menu.
