Files and Directories used by JETDSP

JETDSP uses the following files and directories.  The table at the bottom of the page shows the default file and directory names on Windows NT, Windows 95/98, and UNIX.

Startup file

This defines the locations of the other files.

Preferences file

This defines default parameters for the interactive program alone, such as window size and location.

Style file directory

This is the default location of the style files.   Style files are plain text, and have the extension .sty.

Colours directory

This is the default location of the files that define the palettes available to JETDSP.

Addins directory

This is the location of user-supplied IDL procedures and functions for use in the signal processing code.

Standard Sets directory

This is the default location of Standard Sets saved by the user.  Standard sets are plain text, and have the extension .jss.

The Standard Sets, Addins, Styles and Colours directory are all by default named relative to a base directory.  This is operating system dependent and its default value is given in the first table, along with the location of the JETDSP startup file.  Windows NT users should replace username in this table with their login name, and C: with the drive holding the Winnt directory..

Operating System Base Directory (BASE_DIR) Startup file
Windows NT C:\Winnt\Profiles\username\jet\jetdsp\ (BASE_DIR)\jetdsp.ini
Windows 95/98 C:\jetdsp C:\Windows\jetdsp.ini
UNIX $HOME/.jetdsp $HOME/.jetdsprc

The startup file can be changed to redefine the base directory that JETDSP searches for the following files or directories.  The individual directories (e.g., the Standard Sets directory) can also be changed to override the default..
