Printing

To print from a JETDSP View and Print window, select 'Print' from the File menu of the View/Print Window.

Click on 'Choose Printer...' from the File menu of the View/Print Window to choose a printer.  On Unix, the following dialog will appear:

NoPrinters.gif (5967 bytes)

If there are no printers listed, click the 'Add' button. The following dialog will appear:

ChoosePrinters.gif (5967 bytes)

The list on the left hand side holds all the printers in the system. The list on the right hand side holds your personal selection of these.

Click on one of the printers on the left hand side to select it, and then click 'Add to Selected' to add it to your personal selection. The program gives you the option to give this printer an alias.

You can remove a printer from the right hand 'Selected Printers' list by selecting it and clicking 'Remove'.

Your default printer is at the top of the right hand list. Make another selected printer your default by selecting it and clicking 'Default'.

The 'Network Printer Search' button will open the web page that locates the printers on the JET site.

Dismiss the dialog by clicking the 'OK' button. The 'Select Printer' dialog now looks like this:

ChooseFromtwoPrinters.gif (5967 bytes)

Select the printer you want from this list and click 'OK'. This will be the printer used for the next print from this View/Print window. If you do not have anything in your list of selected printers, output will be to the printer defined by your PRINTER environment variable

This personalised subset of the large number of available printers is stored in the file .myPrinters in your home directory. If you would like to use the JETDSP code that reads and writes this file inside your own IDL applications, please email dmsd-support@jet.efda.org for details.

A number of options change the graphics content that is sent to the printer.   These are part of the Preferences dialog, and are detailed here.

If you have a problem sending to a particular printer at JET, first try exporting an EPS file, and email dmsd-support@jet.efda.org with the results.
