JETDSP - Signals with no data

Signals with no data

JET data is often absent for some pulses but present for others. JETDSP v2.3 has changed the way it handles signals and their data. The program can now handle signals with a definition but with no actual data.

The signal reading dialog and the main signal table have changed slightly to accommodate this. Note that there is an 'Add without reading' button on the signal reading dialog:

 JETDSP read a signal dialog

Click this button to add the signal's definition but not to try to read its data (yet). After dismissing the dialog, the main signal table should look like this:

JETDSP main signal table with one unread signal

Note that the signal name is in (parentheses) and that there is no information about the data it holds. The program will generate a plot from this signal, but it will consist of nothing but axes and a legend entry.

To read the data for this signal, select it by clicking on the name in the left hand column, and choose 'Read Selected Unread Signals' from the File menu:

Reading the unread signal

When you try to read a signal for which the data does not exist, the following dialog will appear, giving you the option to keep this signal definition in the table anyway:

After failing to read a signal

Other dialogs - including the standard set handling ones - also reflect the fact that JETDSP v2.3 can handle such 'unread' or 'placeholder' signals.
